Tragus Piercing Guide
What is a tragus piercing?
A tragus piercing is a type of ear piercing that is done through the small, pointed piece of cartilage that juts out in front of the ear canal, known as the tragus. It is typically a small, delicate piercing that can be adorned with a variety of jewelry styles, such as small studs, hoops, or barbells.
Tragus piercings have become really popular in recent years, however, they can take longer to heal than other ear piercings due to the thickness of the tragus cartilage.
TYPES
LABRET
Labret studs are a great option for a tragus piercing. They are a popular choice for many piercings because the ball can be easily screwed on and off from the front. They are designed with a flat back, which can be more comfortable to wear, especially when sleeping.
BARBELL
Barbells can be used in a tragus piercing. However, it is important to choose the appropriate size and length of the barbell for your tragus piercing to ensure proper healing and comfort. See the size guide below for the right barbell size for your tragus piercing.
SMALL HOOPS
Small hoops, such as captive bead rings, can be suitable for a tragus piercing. However, it's important to choose the appropriate size and gauge for your individual tragus. It's also recommended to wait until the piercing is fully healed before changing to a hoop to avoid irritation or discomfort.
SEGMENT RINGS
Segment rings are another type of jewellery that can be used in a tragus piercing. These rings are circular and consist of two parts that can be twisted apart, making them easy to insert and remove. They also have a seamless look, which can look really nice in a tragus piercing.
SIZES
TRAGUS PIERCING SIZES
When selecting jewellery for a tragus piercing, it's important to consider the size and shape of the piercing. The tragus is a relatively small area, so choosing a smaller piece of jewellery can be more comfortable and less likely to cause irritation or discomfort. While we offer a large selection of cartilage jewellery, not all of it will be suitable for a tragus piercing.

A tragus piercing typically takes about 3-6 months to fully heal. However, some people may experience a longer healing time depending on their individual body's healing process and aftercare practices. It's important to continue cleaning the piercing regularly and avoiding any irritants or trauma to the area during the healing process.
Piercing the tragus can be more painful than other piercings as it is a thicker piece of cartilage with a high concentration of nerve endings. However, pain is subjective and can vary from person to person. Some individuals report minimal pain while others may experience more discomfort.
-
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Dry them with a clean towel.
-
Locate the ball on the end of the tragus piercing stud. It should be visible on the outside of the piercing.
-
Using your fingers, gently twist the ball counterclockwise. This will loosen the ball from the post.
-
Continue twisting the ball until it comes off the post. If the ball is too tight to remove with your fingers, use a pair of clean pliers or tweezers to help unscrew it.
-
Once the ball is removed, gently pull the post out of the piercing hole. It should slide out easily. If you feel any resistance or pain, stop immediately and seek the help of a professional piercer.
-
Clean the area with a saline solution or mild soap and water to prevent infection.
-
If you plan to insert a new piece of jewelry, make sure to sanitize it properly before inserting it into the piercing.
Remember to always be gentle and cautious when removing a piercing, and seek professional help if you encounter any difficulties or experience pain.
-
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to ensure they are clean and dry before touching the piercing.
-
Disinfect the tragus earring and the area around the tragus with rubbing alcohol or saline solution.
-
Hold the earring between your thumb and index finger.
-
Insert the earring into the hole in your tragus slowly and gently, making sure not to force it.
-
Twist the earring slightly as you push it through the piercing to help it glide in more easily.
-
Once the earring is through the piercing, secure the backing onto the post by pushing it onto the end of the earring.
-
Ensure that the backing is securely fastened so that the earring does not fall out.
It is essential to avoid touching or rotating the piercing too much while it heals to prevent irritation or infection. Follow proper aftercare instructions to promote healing and avoid complications.
