Conch Piercing Guide

What is a conch piercing?

A conch piercing is a type of cartilage piercing that is located in the middle part of the ear. It is named after the conch shell, which has a similar shape. The conch area of the ear is located in the innermost ridge of cartilage that separates the outer ear from the inner ear. The piercing can be done in two places: the inner conch, which is closer to the ear canal, or the outer conch, which is closer to the edge of the ear.

TYPES

BARBELL

A common type of jewellery for a conch piercing is the curved barbell.  The size required for a curved barbell is the same as for a straight barbell. Consider trying a curved barbell for a unique look for your conch piercing.

LABRET

A labret piercing can be a more comfortable option for a conch piercing, particularly while sleeping, due to its flat back. It eliminates the discomfort or difficulty of screwing on the back ball of cartilage studs from behind.

CONCH HOOPS

A popular option for a conch piercing is a hoop or ring. These are available in various designs, including plain rings for a more subtle look, or rings with crystals and colorful options for a more vibrant appearance.

The healing time for a conch piercing can vary depending on the individual and their aftercare routine. Typically, it takes around 6 to 12 months for a conch piercing to fully heal. However, some people may experience a longer healing process of up to 18 months. It's important to be patient and follow proper aftercare procedures to promote healing and reduce the risk of complications.

The level of pain experienced during a conch piercing can vary from person to person. Some people report only feeling a brief pinch, while others describe a sharp pain or pressure sensation.

The healing time for a conch piercing can vary, but it typically takes 6-12 months. It's important to wait until the piercing is fully healed before changing the jewellery to avoid irritation or infection. Once the piercing is fully healed, you can change the jewelry yourself or visit a professional piercer to have it changed. It's recommended to use high-quality jewellery made from materials such as stainless steel, titanium, niobium to prevent any irritation or allergic reactions.

Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure that your conch piercing heals properly and stays free from infections. Here are some steps to clean a conch piercing:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap.

  2. Soak a clean cotton ball or pad in saline solution or warm water.

  3. Hold the soaked cotton ball or pad against the piercing for 5-10 minutes to soften any crusts and to disinfect the area.

  4. Gently remove any crusts around the piercing with a clean cotton swab or pad.

  5. Rinse the piercing with warm water and dry it gently with a clean towel or paper towel.

  6. Avoid touching the piercing with your hands or any other objects.

  7. Avoid using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, as they can damage the healing tissue.

You should clean your conch piercing twice a day, preferably in the morning and before bedtime, for the first few weeks after getting pierced. After the initial healing period, you can reduce the frequency of cleaning to once a day or as needed. It's important to continue cleaning your conch piercing regularly to prevent infections and promote healing.
